NYC Community Urban Farming – Competition

Following the successful collaboration on the Parramatta project, we joined again with Josh Spillane and Leon McBride from Glow Render to develop our ideas around community and creating connections through a common ground, local farming hub. The selected site (in Brooklyn New York) acted as a buffer between industrial and residential zones, lending itself to a proposal for urban renewal and we submitted our design, once again for an urban farming tower with educational and research facilities incorporated. The proposal also saw individual small farming lots leased to local growers in the tower.

A direct link was formed to a local school encouraging interaction with learning and skills development at the farm. Retail and residential dwellings were also included to form an active urban edge to the productive “fields”. The tower was to act as a beacon drawing the attention of local residents and encouraging exploration and investigation.
